General Statistical Approaches to Procedural Map Generation
نویسنده
چکیده
Procedural content generation (PCG) studies the algorithmic creation of content (e.g., textures, maps), typically for games. PCG has become a popular research topic in recent years, but little has been done in terms of generalized content generators: approaches that can generate content for a variety of games without hand-tuning. We are interested in exploring statistical algorithms that could lead to generalized procedural map generators.

Probabilistic Foundations for Procedural Level Generation
Procedural content generation (PCG) has become a popular research topic in recent years, but not much work has been done in terms of generalized content generators, that is, methods that can generate content for a wide variety of games without requiring hand-tuning. Probabilistic approaches are a promising avenue for creating more general content generators, and specificially map generators. I ...
متن کاملControllable Procedural Content Generation via Constrained Multi-Dimensional Markov Chain Sampling
Statistical models, such as Markov chains, have recently started to be studied for the purpose of Procedural Content Generation (PCG). A major problem with this approach is controlling the sampling process in order to obtain output satisfying some desired constraints. In this paper we present three approaches to constraining the content generated using multi-dimensional Markov chains: (1) a gen...
متن کاملImproving automatic writer identification
State-of-the-art systems for automatic writer identification from handwritten text are based on two approaches: a statistical approach or a model-based approach. Both approaches have limitations. The main limitation of the statistical approach is that it relies on single-scale statistical features. The main limitation of the model-based approach is that the codebook generation is time-consuming...
متن کاملTowards MCTS for Creative Domains
Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS) has recently demonstrated considerable success for computer Go and other difficult AI problems. We present a general MCTS model that extends its application from searching for optimal actions in games and combinatorial optimisation tasks to the search for optimal sequences and embedded subtrees. The primary application of this extended MCTS model will be for creat...
متن کاملExtensible Multi-domain Generation of Virtual Worlds using Blackboards
Procedural generation of large virtual worlds remains a challenge, because current procedural methods mainly focus on generating assets for a single content domain, such as height maps, trees or buildings. Furthermore current approaches for multi-domain content generation, i.e. generating complete virtual environments, are often too ad-hoc to allow for varying design constraints from creatives ...
